Encroachers eat into RK Puram Lake

In a covert midnight operation, land sharks bulldozed the bund built by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority at the Ramakrishnapuram Lake in Malkajgiri on Sunday and pushed it further back to facilitate encroachmentsAlready, land grabbers have encroached upon a major portion of the lake bed and the full tank level (FTL) area in Bank ColonyThe HMDA had built the 100-metre bund to prevent further loss of land. Further encroachment would pose serious threat to the surrounding localities during heavy rains and destroy the lake’s flora and faunaMr A.M. Yousuf Hussein, deputy executive engineer of the HMDA Urban Forestry Lakes Division, said his department had asked revenue officials to take action on those who damaged the bund. “I was told that a few local goons damaged the bund on Sunday night,” he said“We are going to lodge a complaint against them.” In fact, after residents e bund informed the cops, a police patrol warned the workersBut the bulldozing started as soon as the police leftThe Malkajgiri mandal revenue officer, Mr Kishan Rao, said he was waiting for a report from the revenue inspectorThough the High Court has said that lay outs and buildings surrounding lakes and in FTL area shall not be regularised, encroachers have applied for lay out regularisation and building penalisation scheme.
HMDA lodges complaint with police

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) officials on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Neredmet police seeking action against those who damaged the bund of Ramakrishnapuram lake in Malkajgiri“Some unsocial elements have destroyed the bund of Ramakrishnapuram (mukkidi) cheruvu to to build plots within the full tank level (FTL),” said the HMDA deputy executive engineer, Mr Yousuf Hussein, who had lodged the complaintAnother complaint was also lodged with Malkajgiri Mandal Revenue OfficerHMDA officials named one Sudhakar, Mallesh Yadav and Amarendar in the complaintThe Neredmet subinspector, Mr Chandrasekhar, said, “We have received the complaint from HMDA officials and are verifying it.”
