The crowded Ameerpet and Kukatpally are next soft targets for terror
suspects as they are highly crowded localities with several coaching institutions, IT
training companies, theatres, hostels and shopping centres according to experts. In
Dilshuknagar around six students who are pursuing their software education and preparing
for competitive exams in the institutions near Konark theatre died in the bomb blasts.
Home Minister Ms P Sabita Indra Reddy said,"Terrorists selected Dilshuknagar as target as
it is a crowded area. In Ameerpet and Kukatpally too it is heavily crowded. We have asked
the police to take necessary steps to ensure safety,”
At Dilshuknagar the bomb blast spot was so busy that it has a bus depot, IT training
companies, theatres, and shopping complexes.
“A similar situation prevails in Ameerpet and Kukatpally. Terrorists want maximum damage
to be done when they plant a bomb. All the blast carried out by Indian Mujahideen modules
at crowded places. At Ameerpet near Huda Maithrivanam due to educational institutions,
shopping complexes and theatres it is highly crowded. Similar situation exists at
Kukatpally. There are no surveillance cameras. There is no visible policing in these
areas,” says a security expert.
Ms. Mrudula Alluri, resident of Vivekananda NAgar Colony and student at Rishi UBR College
at Kukatpally says , “ Kukatpally is generally crowded with hundreds on roads during peak
timings are around 6pm to 9 in the evening with most of the institutes, having their
batch switches around that time. The heavily crowded shopping malls, with all the major
textile companies and others having their outlets in the area. While Traffic Police can
be found around the clock, there is no other major security arrangement given to the
area.”
Mr. Suraj.P a student in his second year integrated MA in Hyderabad Central University
and a resident at Kukatpally Housing board, expresses his concern at the similarity
between Kukatpally and Dilsukhnagar, “ Both are educational hubs, major centers where
students, professionals, shoppers, families frequent everyday. Kukatpally alone has more
than 30 educational centers including training institutes for JAva, Dot NEt, CA training
institutes, Private Colleges, and so on . The JNTU circle especially is crowded almost
round the clock. While there was increased police security today, generally except a few
traffic cops there is hardly any security in these areas”
